Hospice Clinical Educator
SUMMARY
The Hospice Clinical Educator is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing the orientation, training, and ongoing competency of clinical team members. This role involves developing and maintaining educational programs, evaluating staff performance, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. This position also mentors new hires, provides support to field staff, participates in committees and outreach initiatives, and ensures that all training and education align with organizational goals, quality standards, and best practices.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conducts orientation and precepting for all new team members, ensuring a comprehensive onboarding experience through mentoring, education, and support.
• Reviews and updates the orientation and preceptor programs at least annually or as needed.
• Participates in assigned committees, community outreach, and educational initiatives as required.
• Identifies clinical and operational learning needs based on leadership feedback.
• Develops, conducts, and maintains annual and ongoing skills competencies for clinical team members.
• Evaluates team members' job-related competencies and provides remedial education when needed.
• Assists in reviewing and updating policies and procedures, recommending changes based on regulatory requirements.
• Remains current on best practices, procedures, and processes to enhance team education.
• Performs regular field visits across disciplines to support learning, skills development, and supervisory needs.
• Oversees designated preceptors to ensure consistent, high-quality information aligned with regulatory standards and organizational goals.
• Collaborates with and reports relevant information to the Education Compliance and Quality Assurance Manager, ensuring alignment of responsibilities and consistent communication to support quality initiatives, regulatory compliance, and staff education.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Bachelor’s degree or associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year College or technical school.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional nursing experience in a related clinical setting is required; hospice experience is preferred.
• Experience in staff education or clinical leadership roles.
• Knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g., CMS, state regulations).
• Experience with performance improvement or quality assurance initiatives.
• Excellent coordination and communication skills.
